Job Description

As an Associate Counsel within NBCUniversal’s Latin America business, you will support the business on a wide range of legal matters relating to the distribution of NBCUniversal channels and services across Latin America.

Responsibilities
  • Negotiate, draft, and interpret legal documents relating to the distribution of NBCUniversal channels and services across Latin America (e.g., distribution agreements and promotion authorizations designed to acquire and retain subscribers).
  • Partner with the Distribution Team to support the development of best practices in line with NBCUniversal’s content rights.
  • Support the development of processes and templates designed to ensure the long‑term efficiency of the legal function.
  • Work with the Content Protection Team to combat piracy in the region; including the drafting of cease and desist letters, collaboration with allies, and lobbying applicable governments to gain support.
  • Analyze industry and regulatory developments in México with the goal of identifying and managing possible impacts to the business.
  • Communicate effectively to internal clients to ensure efficient management of open matters, including organizing and leading meetings as necessary.
  • Collaborate as needed with subject‑matter experts; including outside counsel as well as NBCUniversal’s Corporate legal teams, including the Compliance, Tax, Corporate Secretary, Privacy, Cyber Security, and Litigation Teams.
  • Inspire collaboration across the legal function by developing and maintaining relationships with relevant counterparts across the globe.
  • Train and counsel the business on applicable policies and best practices, including approval processes, key contractual issues, and risk management.
  • Provide support on any other matters that the business or legal function may need.
Basic Qualifications
  • Degree from accredited law school, demonstrated academic achievement, and current bar membership in México in good standing.
  • A minimum of 2 years of media business and legal affairs experience at a law firm and/or media Empresa.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Mexican media and telecommunication laws.
  • Language: Fluent in English & Spanish; Portuguese is a plus.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Must submit a resume/CV through to be considered.

  • Must be willing to work late evenings, and occasional holidays or weekends per business need.
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.

  • Strong analytic, drafting, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Takes ownership of matters, including by taking a solutions‑oriented approach and thinking ahead.
  • Effectively copes with a high‑volume workload in a fast‑paced environment, including proper prioritization of matters.
  • Ability to quickly pivot as business needs and priorities evolve.
  • Experience in media services distribution agreements as well as consumer protection matters in Latin America is preferred.
  • Works as a team player, continuously collaborating within the legal function and with business partners.
  • Takes the initiative to find opportunities to add value.
  • Works independently and to a high professional standard.
